The role of a dental assistant is an important part of the oral healthcare team by providing assistance to the dentist during examination and treatment of a patient.

Learning Outcomes in the Dental Assisting Program

The Dental Assistant diploma program teaches students to:

  • Provide education to patients regarding their dental health

  • Provide chair-side support to the dentist

  • Practice Infection control

  • Take and Develop X-rays

  • Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment

  • Perform dental reception and clerical duties

  • Apply fluoride and pit and fissure sealants

  • Chart and manage patient records

  • Schedule and invoice

National Dental Assisting Examining Board Exam

  • Graduates of Medix' Dental Assistant program are eligible to write the National Dental Assisting Examining Board examination and upon passing the exam are able to practice as a Dental Assistant Level II in Ontario and also qualify for certification with the Ontario Dental Assistants Association (ODAA).

  • Medix College’s Dental Assistant program is approved by the Ontario Dental Assistants Association
