The Post Graduate Certificate in Nursing program provides specific training for nurses who have been educated internationally to learn Canadian best practices and enter the Canadian Health Care System.
Post Grad Nursing Program Information
During this nursing program students will work on test taking strategies and essential nursing topics in preparation for the Nursing Community Assessment Service (NCAS), which is a pre-requisite to write the NCLEX RN (Canadian National Nursing Exam).
NCAS provides a competency assessment for internationally-educated health practitioners (IEPs) — including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, health care aides, and psychiatric nurses — who want to practice in British Columbia.
Some internationally educated nurses have tried to write the exam on their own but have not been successful. Even though they are qualified health care professionals in their own country, some struggle due to the language/comprehension barrier, and the difference in nursing standards.
Sprott Shaw College’s Post Graduate Certificate in Nursing program teaches the specific occupational language and cultural skills necessary to work effectively as a nurse in Canada and to apply this knowledge to the National Council Licensure Exam.
