Orthopaedic Technician

Join the growing and rewarding healthcare field and help patients recover from bone, joint or muscle injuries by becoming an Orthopaedic Technician with training from Westervelt College in London, Ontario. 

As an Orthopaedic Technician, you will work closely with orthopedic surgeons in caring for patients with injured joints and bones.

Orthopaedic Technician Diploma Program Information

During the 12-month Orthopaedic Technician program through both theory and hands-on learning, you will learn:

  • Anatomy and Physiology Fundamentals
  • Medical Terminology
  • CPR and First Aid training
  • Sterile and wound care
  • How to apply and remove casts, splints and braces
  • How to assist with orthopedic procedures such as wound care, aspirations, fracture reductions and minor surgical procedures
  • How to operate and adjust traction equipment, crutches, walkers and other aids
  • Instruct patients in the care of their injuries and how to use crutches

During this program you will participate in three work placements giving you valuable hands-on experience.  At the conclusion of the program, you will participate in an eight-week work practicum.
