Montessori Early Childhood Education

Sprott Shaw College’s Montessori program is designed to foster learning through a Holistic approach, where education takes place through movement and connects mind, body and spirit.

Students in the Montessori early childhood education program will develop a range of skills to enable them to develop and lead daily activities for children such as:

• Selecting age-appropriate materials for young children and developing programs and activities for the early years of learning
• Become nurturing Caregivers/Educators, who will implement the carefully selected materials and activities that include storytelling and fingerplays, music and movement, songs and games, creative arts and crafts, science and nature, to help promote the social, emotional, physical, cognitive and early literacy development in each child.
• Observing children and when appropriate, communicating the children’s progress and/or needs with parents, other staff members and individuals involved with the child’s development

Students will also examine the six major areas of the Montessori curriculum: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, Socials, Art, Music and Movement and how they interrelate.
