Medical Office Assistant

A Medical Office Assistant (MOA), also known as a Medical Receptionist, Medical Administrative Assistant or Medical Secretary is usually the first point of contact for patients, so plays a very important role within a medical office environment.

You can train at Herzing College in Winnipeg and become a Medical Office Assistant in less than a year and learn how to perform the administrative and clinical tasks to keep offices and clinics running smoothly.  While an MOA’s duties can vary depending on the office or clinic, the courses in this Medical Office Assistant program will train you to perform clinical duties such as:

• Taking medical histories
• Recording vital signs
• Performing visual acuity tests
• Performing simple lab tests such as urinalysis
• Performing Electrocardiograms
• Removing sutures and changing sterile dressings
• Explaining treatment procedures to patients
• Preparing patients for examination and assisting the physician'

The courses in the administrative portion of the MOA program will teach you to office procedures such as:

• Performing reception duties in a courteous, professional and efficient manner
• Updating and file patient medical records
• Completing insurance forms
• Handling correspondence
• Scheduling appointments
• Coordinating hospital admission and laboratory services
• Handling billing and bookkeeping

Herzing College’s MOA program includes in-class theory and an internship.
