Feature Article - Early Childhood Education at CDI College

Early childhood educators are trained to plan and implement programs that contribute to the intellectual, social, physical and emotional development of the children they work with, using various activities such as play, arts and crafts, drama, science, math and more.  To be successful in a career in childcare, Early Childhood Educators need to be patient, caring, creative and fun and have a genuine interest in working with children

The Early Childhood Education program at CDI College provides students with the hands-on training they need to become effective Early Childhood Educators. What sets CDI’s program apart, is that students learn from industry experienced instructors in small classes that allow for more interaction with their instructors and fellow students. The program also includes three practicum placements that give students opportunities to observe ECE practices and techniques in action, as well as implementing them.  Grads of the Early Childhood Education program are prepared to work in a range of child care facilities, including daycares, preschools, nursery schools and community centres, corporate daycare centres and family service agencies.

The Early Childhood Education is 43 weeks long, so students can complete their training and graduate in less than a year. Subjects include child growth and development, language, literature, drama, science and math, social studies, behavior management, activity planning, health, nutrition and safety. They also learn about communication, interpersonal relations and daycare administration.

Practicum placements are an integral part of the program because they allow the students to gain some hands-on experience in the field, working under experienced early childhood educators. Students are able to see how the techniques, theories and practices they learned in the classroom are applied in an actual childcare setting.

The hands-on training from industry experienced instructors, small class sizes and practicum placements, make the Early Childhood Education program a great choice for anyone looking to train for a career in child care in less than a year.
