Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma Program Information

Sprott Shaw College has designed the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Diploma program curriculum based on the skills and competancies required for the Early Childhood Education industry by the Ministry for children and Family Development.

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates will have developed a wide range of skills to develop and lead daily activities for children.  Graduates will also learn how:

• Economic, cultural and generational beliefs influence development
• To observe and record a child’s development
• To be able to develop a partnership with parents, colleagues and other service providers.
• To plan and implement comprehensive program plans, focusing on social, emotional, cognitive, physical, language and cultural development
• To create a positive learning environment at includes fun, music and movement activities that enhances learning such as language skills
• To effectively use verbal and non-verbal communication skills and techniques

The Early Childhood Education program includes practicums where students practice physical and emotional caring skills, observe and apply techniques learned in the classroom.  Upon completion, graduates will have to apply to the Early Childhood Educator Registry for registration to be able to work in BC.
