Community Support Worker

Community Services and Support Workers assist, counsel and organize community services and programs for clients dealing with personal or social problems.

The Community Services or Support Worker* program at Herzing College, is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills that are needed to provide various types of assistance to those in the community who need some extra help.

As a Community Service Worker, you may work with clients in halfway houses, detoxification centres, residential care facilities, hospitals,  rehabilitation centres and outpatient clinics where you will provide training in daily living skills, personal communications and personal and vocational counseling.

Students in Community Support program will receive instruction in:

• Sociology
• Psychology
• Mental Health issues
• Addiction and the effects on society
• Counselling and Interviewing Techniques
• Cultural Diversity and Family Dynamics
• Effective Report Writing
• Building effective communication skills to work in a team and with groups

This program also includes an internship component where students will apply their knowledge and skills in a practical environment.
