Vancouver’s fashion design industry is a very progressive community and is making headway around the world. It takes a strong creative vision, talent, technical skills and support to break into it. At Fashion’s Night Out Vancouver's design competition last year, Evan Ducharme, a Visual College of Art and Design (VCAD) took first place in the design competition. This was a significant achievement for the young designer and truly signaled the strength of VCAD's fashion design program. Making a name for himself in the fashion industry, Ducharme was also asked to show at Vancouver’s Eco Fashion Week as one of their main designers.
On November 19, 2013, Ducharme, along with 10 of his fellow VCAD graduates (Oliva Bing, Tira Hummelle, Zoe Collins, Olivia Stewart, Shaunique Simpson, Ross Victoriano, Huong Le, Joshua Shin, Tennille Oppen and Darius Tuliso), were featured in the VCAD ONwards Fashion Show that was held at the Croatian Cultural Centre.
Each designer showed three looks from their current collections at the fashion show. Many of these designers have gone on to start their own design lines and have had successes selling their collections to boutiques in the Lower Mainland and beyond.
